The F Word and Sex Appeal in Literature

Despite never ending appeal and vast sales, women’s fiction remains the poor relation of literature. Why? Well, just take a look at the book covers for female authors compared with those romances written by men.

Could it be that one of the most popular genres is its own worst enemy? In conversation with freelance writer Sandra Smith, rom com author Catherine Jones will tackle biases in the publishing world, the public’s expectations and whether the, ahem, ins and outs of writing slutty / romantic fiction means readers are insatiable or easily satisfied.

Catherine Jones is the author of 22 books, her latest, Homes and Hearths in Little Woodford, is out soon.

Sandra Smith writes features, interviews and reviews for national and regional magazines and is judging this year’s TAL Flash Fiction competition
