Churchill’s Britain:  From the Antrim Coast to the Isle of Wight

While more books have been written about Winston Churchill than any other modern historical figure, Churchill’s Britain does something quite different. It takes the reader the length and breadth of the British Isles on a journey to discover lesser known places associated with Churchill’s life.

Beyond the familiar locations of Blenheim Palace, Chartwell and the Cabinet War Rooms, we visit his schools, his constituencies in Dundee and Epping, the sites of famous speeches and even the shop where he bought his cigars.

By visiting locations that made important but less celebrated contributions to the story of Churchill’s life, Peter Clark takes us on a journey from the site of his father’s marriage proposal to his American future wife on the Isle of Wight to Churchill’s grave in a country churchyard in Oxfordshire.

Peter Clark is a writer, translator and retired diplomat. He worked for 30 years for the British Council, has translated six novels from Arabic and has written extensively on 19th century Britain.
